It was with great sadness that our Veterans Visiting Veterans group received word of the passing on March 7, 2016 of WWII Veteran Hero George Zdanoff.
Word came through our group’s supporter Wendy Boaz-Hayes, owner of SWFL Geriatric Care Management LLC, who introduced us to George and scheduled a weekly visit for George with our group’s coordinator Jim Stevens.

During a break from Distinctive Women photo shoot, Takoda shares some love with Wendy and client George.
Wendy said, “It is with great sadness that I inform VVV that George Zdanoff passed away late yesterday afternoon. I want to thank you for spending the time with George validating his life and contributions to our country. He was so proud of his serice. You made him feel honored and valued. You provided him with much needed companionship and he looked forward to his visits with Jim. When measuring the success of VVV do not look towards the number of lives you touch. Look toward the difference you make in one idividual life at a time. God bless you all and carry on with your mission.”
Jim Stevens’ last weekly visit with George just days before his passing. Jim said, “He was very ill when I first began visiting him. In the last week of his life Wendy informed me that I could still visit him but his condition was deteriorating rapidly. I thought I would visit him one more time and then decide for myself whether visits were still useful for him. The last visit was the best visit I ever experienced with him. He was very happy, very talkative, and joking about the young lady staff member who was in the room with him to help him with his needs. I came in the room behind him and said “Hello George”. He recognized me by my voice and told me how happy he was to see me because the young lady with him had been chasing him around his apartment all morning and he needed someone to protect him from her advances. All three of us had a good laugh. The last hour spent with him was a very rewarding experience for me and I am happy I saw him in that condition. I was saddened to hear of George’s passing but he had told me many times that he wished the Lord would take him because of the pain he was having. It was kind of Wendy to recommend that I meet with him and it is nice to share his story with others. George had been a very successful man in his life and needs to be remembered.
George Zdanoff will be missed.
Thank you for your service George.
Rest in Peace, and Godspeed.
