On Tuesday, July 18, 2017 (John) Leo Staid went to be with his Lord. Born July 26, 1927 to Patrick and Mary (McDonnell) Staid in Peabody, Ma. He is survived by his wife, Cathleen “Cate” Ford Staid; his daughter, Martha M. Staid and her husband Andrew K. Stein; and his son, Timothy J. Staid. By a previous marriage, he also leaves a daughter, MaryBeth Staid Mathews; sons Kevin P. Staid, Jonathan W. Staid, and Brian J. Staid. In addition, he leaves thirteen grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and two step-grandchildren. His brother Eugene and wife, Carol Staid also survive him. Two daughters, Karen Staid and Kathleen Staid Willis, predeceased him, as did a brother & sister-in-law, Robert P. & Norma Staid.
Raised in Peabody, he attended Bentley College after serving in the US Navy during WWII, worked for many years as a corporate Treasurer and Controller at Eastern Tool & Stamping Company, retiring in 1978. He lived in Peabody, Wayland, Reading, Andover, Methuen, MA, and Hampstead, NH before moving to Bonita Springs, FL, where he lived the last 24 years of his life.
Leo was a former member of The Community of God’s Light in N. Andover, MA, and at the time of his death, a communicant of St. Leo the Great Catholic Church.
The Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, July 24, 2017 at St. Leo the Great Roman Catholic Church in Bonita Springs, FL. Private interment will be at the Sarasota National Cemetary in Sarasota, FL.
We at Veterans Visiting Veterans were pleased to get to know Leo during our weekly visits and we will miss him. Godspeed Leo, and thank you for your service to our country.
